Cyrtolabulus scrobalis Selis , sp. nov. ( Fig. 8 View FIGURE 8 )

Diagnosis. Recognized by the following combination of characters: clypeus with a strong basal bulge sharply margined on sides, propodeum with an horizontal face sharply margined posteriorly and angularly separated from vertical face, submarginal carina completely fused to strongly developed inferior carina, T1 with a basal transverse carina, S2 as long as T 2 in lateral view, apical lamella of T2 not pigmented, apical margin of T3 simple.

Material examined. HOLOTYPE: ♀, labeled “MUS. ROY. AFR. CENTR. / Madagascar Est : / Fampanambo VI.1960 / J. Vadon // Cyrtolabulus scrobalis / HOLOTYPE ♀ / Det. Marco Selis ” ( MSNVE).

Description. Female holotype. Body length 7.0 mm; fore wing length 5.0 mm.

Head 1.4× as wide as long in frontal view. Clypeus 1.1× as wide as long in frontal view, apical margin subtruncate and as wide as interantennal distance, 0.25× as wide as width of clypeus, apical angles obtuse and not carinate; clypeus in lateral view strongly convex above and depressed in apical half; basal half in the middle with a raised part sharply separated from depressed sides, transition between median and lateral part marked by a strong ridge forming a furrow in which the scape is placed at rest. Interantennal space rounded, with a short longitudinal tubercle above. Distance from posterior ocellus to occipital margin 1.25× as long as the distance from posterior ocellus to inner eye margin; vertex in lateral view almost flattened and sloping, posterior margin placed below level of upper eye margin. Gena 0.8× as wide as eye at bottom of ocular sinus; occipital carina complete, strong and lamellate on gena, sharp but lower on vertex. F1 1.2× as long as wide and 1.35× as long as F2; F2–F8 distinctly wider than long, becoming proportionally shorter; F9 subquadrate. Mandible short and robust, first three teeth triangular and pointed, fourth and fifth fused in a subquadrate cutting edge. Mesosoma in dorsal view 1.4× as long as wide; dorsally depressed in lateral view. Pronotum in dorsal view with subparallel sinuate sides; pronotal carina mostly absent, visible on humeri only; humeri sharply pointed and shortly spiniform; dorsal and anterior faces of pronotum not markedly separated and smoothly passing into each other, separated by a change in sculpture only. Mesoscutum very weakly convex in lateral view, with hints of notauli in posterior fifth. Scutellum convex separated from mesoscutum by a deep transverse furrow, and from axillary fossa by longitudinal ridge; axillary fossa small but circular. Metanotum sharply angled in lateral view; transverse carina sharp and mostly corresponding to anterior margin of metanotum, produced in small, pointed lobes on sides. Tegula with strongly convex outer margin, maximum width near middle, posterior lobe broadly rounded and exceeding parategula; parategula weakly curved in dorsal view, depressed medially. Mesepisternum with a very short vertical carina originating from lower apex of epimeron; epicnemial carina absent. Propodeum sharply angled in lateral view, with an horizontal face about as long as scutellum; dorsal faces flattened and strongly sloping toward valvulae, forming an horizontal face behind metanotum; lateral face weakly depressed, strongly margined above; posterior face as a broad and deep depression, with a strong but short longitudinal carina at bottom; all carinae strongly developed and sharp, sharply delimiting the posterior depression from other parts of propodeum, inferior carina particularly developed and fused to the strong projection of submarginal carina. T 1 in dorsal view 1.7× as long as apically wide, sides strongly diverging in basal fifth, then less markedly diverging, transition between the two parts marked by a sharp transverse carina angled in the middle; apical margin barely swollen and not preceded by a distinct furrow; T 1 in lateral view abruptly expanded at extreme base, then weakly and evenly narrowing to the apex; transition between lateral and ventral parts of T1 marked by a strong but blunt longitudinal carina. S1 triangular with a long and very narrow basal stalk. T2 about as long as wide in dorsal view, sides strongly convex basally then weakly converging; weakly and evenly convex in lateral view; apical margin with a long lamella smoothly passing into rest of tergite surface. S2 strongly and evenly convex, basal slope with a wide and shallow depression, apical margin lamellate like T2 but lamella shorter.

Clypeus matte, very densely and coarsely punctate on basal raised area, punctures partially fused, rest of surface with much finer and sparser punctures. Head matte, densely and deeply punctate, interspaces reduced to narrow ridges; gena shinier and sparsely punctate, interspaces reaching puncture diameter in width. Mesosoma punctate similar to head, but punctures markedly larger. Dorsal face of pronotum with punctures mostly fused in irregular series; anterior face shiny with a median pair of pits and scattered deep punctures on sides. Mesoscutum and scutellum with interspaces partly flattened and reaching half puncture diameter, shiny and sparsely micropunctate. Metanotum strongly shiny, with short series of punctures on sides. Mesepisternum with coarse and dense punctures arranged in series on upper half, more sparsely punctate with wide interspaces below; epicnemium shagreened with scattered deep punctures; metaepisternum finely shagreened with strong transverse striae. Tegula micropunctate with sparse deep punctures. Dorsal face of propodeum with deep punctures, absent on extreme sides and becoming progressively denser medially; posterior depression largely smooth and shiny with coarse punctures along margins, median carina margined by short oblique striae; lateral face with fine irregular striation. T1 with oblique punctures arranged in irregular transverse series, denser and deeper basally and becoming finer and sparser apically, interspaces very shiny with few very sparse micropunctures; basal sloping area and apical margin densely micropunctate. T2 densely and deeply punctate, interspaces densely micropunctate and at most as long as puncture diameter; apical lamella preceded by a series of slightly larger punctures. T3–T4 with small punctures. T5–T6 finely shagreened. S1 mostly smooth and shiny, with some deep elongate punctures. S2–S6 sculpted similar to respective tergites but punctures sparser. Whole body with pale pubescence, denser and silvery on clypeus, gena, mesepisternum, most of propodeum and sternites; erect short setae on head, dorsal side of mesosoma and S1–S6.

Black; following parts dark red: most of mandible, posterior margin of pronotum, tegula, part of legs, irregular markings on T1–T2 and S1, most of T3–T6 and S3–S6; following parts yellow: short transverse line on pronotal humeri, narrow apical margin on T1–T2 and short line on posterior corners of S2. Wings infuscate with weak purplish reflections, more markedly along anterior margin.

Male. Unknown.

Distribution. Madagascar: Toamasina ( Fig. 12 View FIGURE 12 ).

Etymology. The specific name is in reference to the scrobe-like furrows on the clypeus.
