Replaced synonym of: Mussaenda fruticosa L. (1767) , nom. illeg.

Lectotype (Jayaweera in J. Arnold Arbor. 44: 239, f. 4. 1963): Herb. Hermann 3: 44, No. 84, upper specimen (BM-000621963) .

Generitype of Mussaenda Linnaeus.

Current name: Mussaenda frondosa L. ( Rubiaceae ).

Note: Although originally appearing as "M. fr. [fructu] frondoso", the name is to be cited as " M. frondosa " (Art. 23.7, Ex. 18). Smith (in J. Arnold Arbor. 26: 104. 1945) stated that "the actual type is a collection of Hermann from Ceylon" but did not indicate where this might be held (BM, L, etc.). Jayaweera’s explicit statement is therefore accepted here as typifying the name.
