Axiogynodiastylis Gerken, 2001 View in CoL
Type species. Gynodiastylis rochfordi Hale, 1946 .
Diagnosis. Female and subadult male. Female with fully developed exopods on pereopods 1–2 and rudimentary exopods in female on pereopods 3–4.
Adult male. Antenna with peduncle of 3–4 articles, flagellum of 11 articles. Exopods present on maxilliped 3– pereopod 4.
Remarks. Axiogynodiastylis may be difficult to differentiate from Gynodiastylis without a compound microscope, as the rudimentary exopods present in the females are very small and may be difficult to see at low magnifications. However, the key to the Gynodiastylidae of New Zealand does not rely on the generic characters to differentiate the species.
New Zealand species. Axiogynodiastylis fimbriata Gerken, 2001 , A. kopua Gerken, 2001 .
