Diagnosis. Females and subadult males. Unknown.

Adult males. Carapace smooth, unornamented, antennal notch deep. Pereopod 2 without fine hair-like setae. Pereopods 3–5 dactylus with bumps on margin, terminal seta bifurcated at tip. Uropod endopod biarticulate.

Remarks. This species is similar to Gynodiastylis chathamensis in having a deep antennal notch. However, in G. chathamensis the uropod endopod is triarticulate and in pereopods 3–5 the dactylus terminal seta is simple, while in G. k o a t a a t a the uropod endopod is biarticulate and on pereopods 3–5 the dactylus terminal seta is bifurcated at the tip. The known depth range is increased to 154–1081 m. Specimens were collected from Chatham Rise and Challenger Plateau.
