Bolitogyrus metallicus View in CoL sp. nov.

( Figs. 5, 5-1 View FIGURE 5 )

Type material. Holotype ♂, CHINA: Hubei Province: Shennongjia Nature Reserve, Pingqian, 26. IX. 2005, coll. Yong jie Chen.

Description. Forebody black, with bright greenish metallic hue; abdomen almost entirely dark brown, with posterior margin of every tergite paler; antennae brown, with antennomere I paler, labrum and mandibles dark reddish brown, maxillary and labial palpi brown; legs pale brown, with apical portion of mid and hind femora dark brown.

BL = 10.0 mm, BW = 2.2 mm, HL/PL/EL = 1.00: 1.08: 1.48, HW/PW/EW = 1.00: 1.09: 1.29

Head ( Fig. 5 View FIGURE 5 A) round, wider than long, in dorsal view HW/HL = 1.15, HEL/HTL = 5.28; frons with somewhat ill-defined shallow V-shaped impression; three setiferous punctures along medial margin of eye between anterior and posterior frontal setiferous punctures; posterior frontal setiferous puncture situated slightly anterior to level of posterior margin of eye, separated from posteriomedial margin of eye by a distance shorter than the diameter of the puncture; temporal setiferous puncture almost touching posterior margin of eye; dorsal surface densely and coarsely punctate, slightly sparser in middle area.

Pronotum ( Fig. 5 View FIGURE 5 B) wider than long, PW/PL = 1.18, slightly narrowed anteriorly, lateral and posterior margins broadly rounded; posterolateral and posterior margins narrowly explanate; two setiferous punctures in each dorsal row, one situated close to anterior margin and one right behind middle; large lateral setiferous puncture with socket not touching marginal groove; disc of pronotum densely and moderately coarsely punctate, distinctly denser and coarser near anterior angle, surface without microsculpture.

Elytra ( Fig. 5 View FIGURE 5 C) as wide as long, EW/EL = 1.01, ESL/EL = 0.60, slightly broadened posteriorly; surface covered with dense and coarse punctures; surface between punctures without microsculpture. Hind wings fully developed.

Abdominal tergites III–V with middle portion almost impunctate, with transverse depressions at base, punctures before depressions distinctly coarse and dense; VII–VIII sparsely punctate, without transverse depression; VII with whitish apical seam of palisade fringe.

Male with first four segments of foretarsus moderately dilated, sub-bilobed; segment II about as wide as apex of tibia; tergite VIII ( Fig. 5-1 View FIGURE 5 A) with basal ridge disrupted in middle; sternite VIII ( Fig. 5-1 View FIGURE 5 B) with two long setae on each side, apical margin with a very shallow and inconspicuous emargination, with a relatively large acute triangular area around the emargination impuncate; sternite IX ( Fig. 5-1 View FIGURE 5 C) with basal portion very short and wide, apical margin with a shallow emargination, with one long seta on each side; tergite X ( Fig. 5-1 View FIGURE 5 D) with basal side broadly and shallowly concave, apical margin slightly protruded, widely rounded; aedeagus in lateral view ( Fig. 5- 1 View FIGURE 5 E) with apex of paramere distinctly protruding beyond that of median lobe, paramere raised narrowly along midline forming a longitudinal ridge toward median lobe from near apical 1/3 to a little below apex ( Fig. 5 View FIGURE 5 D); aedeagus in parameral view ( Fig. 5-1 View FIGURE 5 F) with paramere elongate, inconspicuously constricted at about apical 1/4, then gradually narrowed forming bluntly rounded apex ( Figs. 5 View FIGURE 5 E, 5-1G); median lobe almost parallel-sided throughout length, somewhat narrower than paramere, subtriangular apex with arcuate process along apical margin ( Figs. 5 View FIGURE 5 F, 5-1H); apical margin of paramere with four apical setae in a cluster at middle and two long subapical setae on each side, underside covered with numerous sensory peg setae, covering most of apical portion, extended posteriorly along lateral sides and forming one medial group on the longitudinal ridge ( Figs. 5 View FIGURE 5 E, 5-1G).

Female unknown.

Distribution. Bolitogyrus metallicus sp. nov. is known only from the type locality in the northwest of Hubei Province: Shennongjia Nature Reserve. The specimen was collected in September.

Diagnosis. This new species can be easily distinguished from other congeners by the unique shape of the paramere with a longitudinal ridge along midline of its inner face.

Etymology. The specific name is from the Latin adjective metallicus (metallic), referring to the bright metallic hue of the forebody.
