Diagnosis (modified after Błażewicz-Paszkowycz, 2007 a): Body long, more than ten times L:W; pereonite-1 long (about as long as cephalothorax); pereonites 1–5 longer than wide (pereonites 2 and 3 over twice L:W); pereonites 1–3 longer than pereonites 4–6; antennule article-2 wider than long; article-3 without terminal spur; mandible molar process with irregular edge; cheliped attached via small sclerite, basis not reaching the pereonite-1 ventrally; propodus stout, less than 2.5 times L:W; pereopod-1 propodus with rod-like ventrodistal seta; pereopods 4–6 basis stout, less than 2.5 times L:W; merus and carpus with large specialized hooks; unguis trifurcate; pleopods present, both rami with setae on lateral and distal margin and gap between most proximal seta and others; uropod as long as pleotelson; endopod one- or two-articled, exopod one-articled.

Type species: Hamatipeda trapezoida Błażewicz-Paszkowycz, 2007 .
