Type material. Male holotype and female allotype from Estação Científica Ferreira Penna (01º46’63.6”S 51º25’44.8”W), Floresta Nacional de Caxiuanã, Melgaço, Pará, Brazil, 08.VIII.2003, J.A.P. Barreiros ( MPEG 2502, 2475). Paratypes: 1 male and 1 female ( MPEG 2501, 2472), same data as holotype; 1 male and 1 female ( IBSP 63599, 63600), same data as holotype.

Additional material examine d. BRAZIL. Pará: 4 males and 2 females ( IBSP 63601-63603), 3 males and 4 females ( MPEG 2473-2474, 2476-2479, 2500), Melgaço, Floresta Nacional de Caxiuanã, Estação Científica Ferreira Penna, Melgaço (01º46’63.6”S 51º25’44.8”W); 1 male ( MPEG 2994), Igarapé Caquajó, Portel (Parcela PPBio, 01º57’38.9”S, 51º36’45.3”W), 08-13.V.2005, J. A. P. Barreiros & D. F. Candiani.

Etymology. The specific name is a noun in apposition that refers to Igarapé (small river) Curuá , a Caxiuanã River tributary.

Diagnosis. Otiothops curua sp. nov. differs from all other species of Otiothops except O. recurvus Platnick , by the long and slender embolus, twisted around the pedipalpal bulb ( Figs.1–2 View FIGURES 1 - 5 ) and by the presence of a posteriorly directed, unpaired posterior extension of the median recpetacula (= spermathecae in Platnick, 1976, figs. 4–5) ( Fig. 3 View FIGURES 1 - 5 ). Differs from O. recurvus by the shorter, gently curved embolus of the male pedipalp ( Figs. 1–2 View FIGURES 1 - 5 ) and by the globose bursa and larger, oval receptaculum of the female genitalia ( Figs. 4–5 View FIGURES 1 - 5 ).

Description. Male (Holotype, MPEG 2502): Carapace and chelicerae reddish orange, thoracic groove dark, labium, sternum, pedipalps and leg I orange. Remaining legs yellow. Abdomen dorsally dark, ventrally pale gray, with anterior ring-shaped scutum orange. Total length 3.50. Carapace 1.70 long, 1.30 wide. Femur I 1.10 long, 0.5 high. Cephalic area strongly elevated. Thoracic groove a deep, V-shaped pit. Anterior median eyes largest, circular, dark. Anterior and posterior lateral eyes small, light. Posterior median eyes contiguous, opalescent and irregularly triangular. Embolus curved at its tip ( Fig. 2 View FIGURES 1 - 5 ).

Female (Paratype, MPEG 2475): Coloration as in male, except legs II–IV yellowish and abdomen ventrally darker. Total length 4.60. Carapace 2.10 long, 1.50 wide. Femur I 1.30 long, 0.6 high. Cephalic area strongly elevated. Thoracic groove and eyes as in male. Epigastric scutum posteriorly sulcated, with post-epigastric plate club shaped, widely separated ( Fig. 3 View FIGURES 1 - 5 ). Internal genitalia with anterior extension of median receptaculum held by distal area of long sclerites of pedicel ( Fig. 4 View FIGURES 1 - 5 ); inconspicuous pore plate, situated in depression, with posterior wall covered with very tiny pores, and with short lateral copulatory ducts; uterus externus flat, rectangular, anteriorly directed, situated below pair of bursa separated by they diameter ( Fig. 5 View FIGURES 1 - 5 ).

Median tracheae similar to those of O. atlanticus (see Platnick et al., 1999, fig. 49), represented only by entapophyses, not fused to each other; 4–5 lateral tracheae on each side, not bifurcating. Anterior spinneret entapophyses partially fused at their bases.

Variation. Ten males: total length 3.20-3.80; carapace length 1.60–1.80; femur I length 1.00–1.20. Ten females: total length 4.30–5.20; carapace length 1.80–2.20; femur I length 1.10–1.30. Distribution. Known only from the type locality.
