Diagnosis. (Incorporating data for O. loriae ). Length up to 60 mm. (19) 21–22 (23, 24) antennal articles, the basal 2–2.5 glabrous. Each forcipular coxosternal tooth-plate with 6–10 teeth generally with an inner group of three main teeth an outer of two or three (Fig. 41). Tergites sometimes with low lateral ridges, with ( loriae ) or without spinules, with complete paramedian sutures from 5, 6 or 7 (8), marginate from 7–11 (14). Sternites with short anterior paramedian sutures. Sternite of ultimate leg-bearing segment trapezoidal. Coxopleural process of moderate length with two or three apical (two apical+one subapical), (0), 1, 2 (3) lateral spines. A tibial spur on legs 1–15, 16, 17, 18. Two tarsal spurs on legs 1–(14), 16, 17, 18, 19 (20), the rest to 20 with one. Ultimate leg prefemoral spines VL 3–4 (5), VM 2–4, M 0 (2) DM 0, 1, 2, CS 1. In total (6) 7–12 plus a corner spine.

Material examined and descriptions. BMNH. Otostigma latidens Pocock co-type 96.10.6.8. Buitenzorg [Bogor], Java. 58 mm. 21 antennal articles, the 2.33 basal glabrous. 6+6 coxosternal teeth (very worn). With complete paramedian sutures from 7, marginate from 11. Coxopleural process with two apical and one or two lateral spines. Legs 1-17 with two tarsal spurs (18–20 missing). Tibial spurs abnormally absent on 1–16 but present on 17. Ultimate leg prefemoral sapines VL 4, VM 2, DM 1, CS 1.

Ot. latidens . Nab River Borneo Hose 95.7.13.18 = O. multidens Haase. 44mm. Antennae damaged, the basal 2–2.25 articles glabrous. 7+6 coxosternal teeth. Tergites with complete paramedian sutures from T7, marginate from 11. Coxopleural process with three apical, no lateral spines. Legs 1–18 with one tibial spur, 1–17 with two tarsal spurs, 18–20 with one, ultimate leg without. Ultimate leg prefemoral spines VL 3, VM 2, DM 2, CS 1.

Otostigma latidens Pocock , [Mount] Salak [Java] R. Kirkpatrick. 91.4.30.4 (Java). = O. multidens Haase. 47 mm. Antennal articles 22, the basal 2.5 glabrous. 8+9 worn forcipular coxosternal teeth. With complete paramedian sutures from 7, marginate from 11. Coxopleural process with three apical, one or two lateral spines. Leg 1 missing, 2–18 with one tibial spur, 2–18 with two tarsal spurs, 19 and 20 with one. Ultimate legs missing.

O. multidens . Peat swamp forest nr. Kereng Benkiavi, Sungai Sabangan, Central Kalimantan, Indonesia, 09/08/ 94. P. Jenkins. Bucket trap. Two incomplete specimens. Antennal articles 22[d], the basal 2.2 glabrous. 7+7 and 6+6 forcipular coxosternal teeth. With complete paramedian sutures from T8 and 7, marginate from 7 and 9. Leg 1 with a femoral spur, legs 1–16 with a tibial spur, legs 1–18 with two, 19 with one, 20 without tarsal spurs. Ultimate legs missing.

SMNH. Otostigma orientale Porat Java, Salak 1000 m Juni 1897, Colleg Hj Möller Determ. Attems. 49 mm. Antennal articles 22, the basal 2.5 glabrous. 9+6 forcipular coxosternal teeth (Fig. 42). With complete paramedian sutures from 6, marginate from 9. Coxopleural process with three apical and one lateral spine. Legs 1–18 with one tibial and two tarsal spurs, leg19 with one tarsal spur, 20 and 21 without. Right ultimate leg (probably regenerated) with prefemoral spines VL 6, VM 2, 2, DM 2, CS 1 (Fig. 43), the left VL 3, VM 3, DM 1, CS 1 (Fig. 44).

ZSM. Otostigmus spinosus Porat. Java coll. Verhoeff. 59 mm. Antennal articles 21, the basal 2.25 glabrous. 8+8 forcipular coxosternal teeth. With complete paramedian sutures from T6, marginate from 10. Coxopleural process with two or three apical and one lateral spine. Legs to 15 with one tibial, to 16 with two tarsals, 17–20 with one tarsal, ultimate legs without tarsal spurs. NB no dorsodistal spine on prefemur of leg 20. Ultimate leg prefemoral spines VL 3, VM 3, DM 0, CS 1.

Remarks. Haase (1887) described O. multidens as having a single tibial spur on legs 1–7 rather than on 1–17, 18 or 19. This may represent geographical variation but is probably an error and has been excluded from the diagnosis. Attems (1938) described O. multidens from Vietnam with ultimate leg prefemur spines as VL 3 or 4, VM and M 7 without clear division. This is atypical, probably due to regeneration. Otostigmus multidens appears to be highly variable with respect to the number of forcipular coxosternal teeth and the number of ultimate prefemoral spines but, despite this, cannot be clearly subdivided into separate populations using morphological data.
