Distribution: Alaska ( USA) through S Canada to S Labrador to NE and SC USA; south in Rocky Mtns, possibly to N Idaho.

Conservation: IUCN – Lower Risk (lc).

Discussion: Subgenus Marmota ( Steppan et al., 1999) . Reviewed by Kwiecinski (1998, Mammalian Species No. 591).
