Subfamily Coronulinae Leach, 1817

Type genus. Coronula Lamarck, 1802:464 ; by original designation of Leach (1817: 68).

Diagnosis. Wall large, massive, hemispherical to barrel-shaped; external T-shaped longitudinal flanges welldeveloped; body chamber extending above the surface of the host.

Genera and species included. † Coronula aotea Fleming, 1959 ; † Coronula barbara Darwin, 1854 ; † Coronula bifida Bronn, 1831 ; Coronula diadema ( Linnaeus 1767) ; † Coronula dormitor Pilsbry & Olson, 1951 ; † Coronula ficarazzensis de Gregorio, 1895; † Coronula macsotayi Weisbord, 1971 ; Cetopirus complanatus ( Mörch, 1852) ; † Cetolepas hertleini Zullo, 1969 .

Remarks. Examining fossil specimens from Ecuador, Bianucci et al. (2006) proposed that C. macostayi is a junior synonym of C. diadema , although no detailed taxonomic comparisons were presented.
