Species recognition. This dark brown species is easily recognized by the distinctive pattern of peglike setae, which are highly concentrated near the base of the hind femur.
Description. Body length: 2.31–2.47 mm. Head: Frons dark brown, second row of setae slightly concave. Flagellomere 1 round, light brown. Palpus of normal size, yellow. Thorax: Scutum dark brown. Scutellum dark brown, with 2 pairs of setae; anterior seta two-thirds length of posterior seta. Pleuron dark brown. Mean costal length 0.53 wing length, range 0.53 (no variation). Halter yellow. Legs light brown, except foreleg yellowish-brown. Forecoxa in lateral view yellowish-brown. Foretibia with 5 dorsal setae. Foretarsomeres 1–3 enlarged, inflated. Midcoxa dark brown. Hind coxa light brown. Hind coxal lobe light brown, short, narrow, dorsally curved. Posterior face of hind femur with basal triangular group of peglike setae, extending dorsally along basal margin of hind femur; more distally with shallow concavity ( Figs 67–68). Abdomen: Abdominal tergite 1 dark brown, tergites 2–6 blackish-brown. Venter of abdomen gray, with sparse setae. Male terminalia with epandrium yellowish-brown, hypandrium brown, and cercus yellow.
Distribution. Amazonian Colombia and Ecuador
Derivation of specific epithet. From Latin for base, referring to the basal location of the peglike setae.
