Dohrniphora anatona View in CoL sp. n.

( Figs 127–128, 315, 317)

Species recognition. This species is most similar to D. consimilis Brown & Kung , with which it shares a broad ventral “tooth” of the hind femur; however that species has two large hind tibial setae, a differently-shaped concavity, and a carina that is less extensive dorsally than in D. anatona .

Description. Body length: 1.75–2.22 mm. Head: Frons dark brown, second row of setae slightly concave. Flagellomere 1 rounded-oval, light brown. Palpus of normal size, light brown. Thorax: Scutum light brown to brown. Scutellum brown, with setae broken. Pleuron with anepisternum and proepisternum brown, rest of pleuron light brown ( Fig. 315). Mean costal length 0.47 wing length, range 0.45–0.49. Halter whitish-yellow. Legs yellowish-brown. Forecoxa in lateral view yellowish-brown. Foretibia with 3–4 dorsal setae. Foretarsomeres slender, elongate. Midcoxa brown. Hind coxa yellowish-brown. Hind coxal lobe light brown, short, with ventral projection. Posterior face of hind femur with basal, dorsoventrally oriented group of peglike setae; tooth of ventral concavity projecting ventrally, but relatively flat; carina elongate, reaching mid-depth of femur ( Figs 127–128). Abdomen: Abdominal tergite 1 yellow, tergites 2–6 dark brown, with yellow anterior and posterior margins ( Fig. 317). Venter of abdomen whitish-yellow, segments 3–6 brown laterally, with few setae, larger on posterior margin of segment 5. Male terminalia dark brown, except cercus yellow.

Distribution. Costa Rica and French Guiana.

Derivation of specific epithet. From Latin anatonus, meaning stretching or extending upwards, referring to the relatively long carina on the hind femur.
