Species recognition. This species closely resembles D. carrilloensis , but besides differing in body color as noted in the key, it also has a longer carina.

Description. Body length: 2.16–2.31 mm. Head: Frons dark brown, except light brown on anterior margin and around bases of setae, second row of setae slightly concave. Flagellomere 1 oval, light brown. Palpus of normal size, yellow. Thorax: Scutum light brown. Scutellum brown, with 2 pairs of setae; anterior seta onethird length of posterior seta. Pleuron yellowish-brown, except dorsum of anepisternum brown. Mean costal length 0.51 wing length, range 0.51–0.52. Halter yellow. Legs yellowish-brown. Forecoxa in lateral view yellowish-brown. Foretibia with 4 dorsal setae. Foretarsomeres slender, elongate. Midcoxa brown to dark brown. Hind coxa yellowish-brown. Hind coxal lobe yellow, short, with ventral projection. Posterior face of hind femur with basal, dorsoventrally oriented group of peglike setae; tooth of ventral concavity projecting ventrally, carinate; carina elongate, strongly curved, reaching mid-depth of femur ( Figs 131–132). Abdomen: Abdominal tergite 1 yellow, tergites 2–6 mostly yellow, with dark brown lateral markings that taper medially ( Fig. 319). Venter of abdomen yellow, with sparse setae. Male terminalia with epandrium yellowish-brown, hypandrium brown, and cercus yellow.

Distribution. Amazonian Brazil and Ecuador.

Derivation of specific epithet. From Greek for questioning, referring to the greatly rounded, questionmark-like carina of the hind femur.

Holotype. ♂, ECUADOR: Napo: 10 km SW Limon Chicta , 23–27.v.1987, B. Brown, L. Coote, Malaise trap, rain forest [ LACM ENT 268212 View Materials ] ( LACM).
