Two of the fourteen species are recorded for Ecuador, and there is possibly a third yet unknown species. Adults are small to medium in size and usually are black with blue markings ( Fig. 23 View FIGURE 23 ), although young individuals are black and red. For identification, see von Ellenrieder & Garrison (2008a). They breed in small pools of open marshy seepage at high elevations.

Mesamphiagrion unresolved: NA, Quijos: Yanayacu Biological Station, 3.5 km SW of Cosanga, marshy seeps and ditches in pasture (-0.5800, -77.8650, 2045m), date not provided; data provided by WAH & DLW. WAH (pers. comm. 2016) listed it as “ cf. laterale , ID not confirmed, but not dunklei or ecuatoriale .”
