Triacanthagyna Selys, 1883 

Of the nine species in this genus, five occur in Ecuador. Adults are mainly dark green and black and are relatively slender and small compared to most aeshnids ( Fig. 68View FIGURE 68); they are crepuscular, sometimes flying at treetop level just before dark. Small, temporary, rainforest pools and tree holes are the preferred habitat. References are Williamson (1923a) and von Ellenrieder & Garrison (2003).

Note: von Ellenrieder & Garrison (2003) suggest that “the apparently disjunct distribution may be due to the species being rare and more though collecting will show it to occur in intermediate localities.”
