Erythemis Hagen, 1861 

Of the ten species in this genus, all eight that occur in South America have been recorded in Ecuador. See Kennedy (1923) and Williamson (1923b) for species identification. Adults are medium to large with diverse body coloration, including green, red, orange, brown and black ( Figs. 94a & bView FIGURE 94). The habitats are mostly lentic, including ponds, lake edges and marshes, but they can be found also in slow streams.
