Aphylla Selys, 1854 

A large genus of large dragonflies ( Fig. 70View FIGURE 70) with at least five species occurring in Ecuador. For species identification see Belle (1970, 1992b, 1994). Found mostly in mud-bottomed, slow-flowing or stagnant waters.

Notes: There is a specimen collected by a student, labelled IM, Ibarra: 1 ♂, Ibarra 28 i 1989 [QZAC]. Since there are no records for A. boliviana  at high elevations, we have not included it as a data record. Interestingly, males have either a red abdomen or a black abdomen.
