Wide range of morphologies; in the present survey, commonly digitate, branching or tabular. In this survey, colony size was typically <40 cm across. Visually distinct corallites, 0.7 to 1.3 mm in diameter, cylindrical in appearance. A key feature of this taxon are its differentiated axial corallites located at the tips of branches that are often pale or white; this should not be confused with bleaching-induced colour changes. Commonly in shades of brown, although other colours can occur (Fig. 74).
