Trichipteris gibbosa (Klotzsch) Barrington (1976: 3) . Type:— GUYANA. “Im britischen Guiana,” Schomburgk 1124 (lectotype B-20-0000132, here designated, isolectotypes BM-000804340!/-000804342!, BR-0000006869328!, GH [fragment of B], K-000589861!, NY-00148674! [fragment of B], P-00642355!).

Cyathea surukunensis Marcano (1990: 220) . Type:— VENEZUELA. Bolivar: Near Río Surukún, near Peray-tepuy, 985 m, 16 March 1987, V. Marcano 209 (holotype VEN n.v., isotypes P-00633051!, UC-1584768!).

Distribution and habitat: — Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador, Peru, and Bolivia at 900–1450 m, in the understory of moist montane forests, probably restricted to sandstone. May also occur in Brazil, e.g. in the Neblina range at the border to Venezuela and the Serránia de Huanchaca at the border to Bolivia.

Remarks: —Previously known as Cyathea kalbreyeri (Baker 1894: 9) Domin (1929a: 262) ( Lehnert 2014a). Two sheets at W with the sole annotation “H. Lips.” (= Herbarium Leipzig) agree well with the type material and may be isotypes of Alsophila gibbosa .
