Type species: Carinicateres merkli sp. nov.

Diagnosis: The new genus is characterised by the following morphological features: 1) cranium with deep and distinctly emarginate frontoclypeal suture ( Fig. 1 View FIGURE 1 CD), 2) antenna 10-segmented with 2-segmented club ( Fig. 2 View FIGURE 2 AB), 3) dorsal sculpture of cranium composed of large impressions with seta in middle ( Fig. 2A View FIGURE 2 ), 4) mandible with mola ( Fig. 3C View FIGURE 3 ), 5) prementum divided into two parts ( Fig. 3B View FIGURE 3 ), 6) tarsal formula 4-4-4 ( Figs 2E View FIGURE 2 , 3 View FIGURE 3 DE), 7) elytron with 2 complete and 3 shortened carinae ( Fig. 2D View FIGURE 2 ).

The new genus belongs to a group of lophocateride genera with distinct mola and deeply emarginate frontoclypeal suture (‘Lophocaterini’ sensu Kolibáč 2006, 2008, 2013). It shares divided prementum and structure of lacinia with Indopeltis Crowson, 1966 , while five elytral carinae and distinct dorsal pubescence resemble Trichocateres Kolibáč, 2010 . All three lophocaterine genera share crenulate lateral margins of pronotum, and coarse dorsal sculpture of cranium, however, tarsal formula, characteristic structure of elytral carinae, and antenna (points 2, 6, 7 above) are unique synapomorphies of Carinicateres gen. nov.

Etymology: The name is derived from the presence of the distinct elytral carinae and the root - cateres. Gender: masculinum.
