Genus Caliscelis de Laporte

Type species: Fulgora bonellii Latreille, 1807

Description. Head with eyes narrower than pronotum. Vertex broader than length, approximately quadrangular with disc distinctly depressed. Ocelli present. Vertex with median carina or not; anterior margin somewhat concave and disc not elevated. Frons elevated without carina, not at the same plane with clypeus ( Figs 3, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18, 20, 23); frontoclypeal suture distinctly or slightly arched. Rostrum long, reaching hind-trochanter. Pronotum with median carina or not, anterior margin distinctly convex, posterior margin nearly truncate; disc with two pits. Mesoscutellum nearly triangular, with two pits along lateral margin; disc slightly elevated, carina present or not. Tegmina short and nearly quadrangular, veins obscure, claval suture absent; wings absent. Legs relatively long, fore femora and tibia foliately dilated ( Figs 24, 35, 45, 58, 64), lateral margin of hind tibia with one tooth. Spinal formula of hind leg (6–7)-2-2, indicating number of spines at apex of hind tibia and tarsomeres I and II respectively. Male genitalia symmetrical; anal segment elliptical or mushroom-shaped; pygofer without spines; aedeagus tubular, asymmetrical, with process or not. Female genitalia: anal segment cuplike, longer than widest part. First valvulae with teeth; third valvulae nearly rectangular.

Distribution. Neotropical, African, Oriental and Palaearctic regions.
