Hosts. Asteraceae : Arctium lappa L., A. minus (Hill) Bernh. , A. tomentosum Mill. ( Spencer 1976) .

Mine. ( Fig. 207 View FIGURES 202–210 ) The solitary larva forms a white irregular linear upper surface leaf mine. Very often a single leaf contains numerous larvae. Pupation takes place outside the mine in the soil.

Puparium. ( Figs. 208–210 View FIGURES 202–210 ) Greyish-brown, semi-glossy, 2.2 mm long, with distinct but shallow segmentation; surface finely wrinkled except for narrow band of fine spines. Posterior spiracles set flat on the body cuticle and entirely separate; black, glossy, with twenty fine sessile bulbs set in an elliptical configuration. Anal plate greyishbrown, slightly protruding above the surface of the puparium viewed from the side and directed ventro-posteriorly.

Cephalopharyngeal skeleton. ( Fig. 582 View FIGURES 582–587 ) Right mouthhook larger than the left, each bearing two accessory teeth strongly different in size: both teeth long and narrow in the right hook and much shorter and wider in the left hook. Intermediate sclerite long and slightly curved, 1.94× as long as maximum height of left mouthhook. The mouthhook, intermediate sclerite and most of the dorsal cornu are strongly sclerotized, the rest of the pharyngeal sclerite is much less. The ventral cornu bears a small “closed” window located centrally. Indentation index 81. See also in Sasakawa (1961: Fig. 132 l View FIGURES 130–137 ).

Female head. ( Figs. 583, 584 View FIGURES 582–587 ) Yellow, with only oc tr, antenna, palpus, postgena posteriorly and hind margin of eye brown; orbit not projecting above eye in profile; 2 orb s, 2 fr s; lunule broad, high, semicircular, reaching the level of the posterior fr s; pped small, slightly longer than high; gena medially 0.2× as high as maximum height of eye.

Female genitalia. ( Figs. 585–587 View FIGURES 582–587 ) Capsule of spermatheca relatively small, 0.17× as high as height of anterior part of oviscape. Spermathecae equal in size, brown, trapezoid, wider than high. Internal duct invagination trapezoid, 0.7× as deep as height of spermatheca. Spermathecal duct weakly sclerotized. Ventral receptacle flattened S-shaped, with thin, weakly sclerotized tail. Body of receptacle flattened oval with slightly curved basal connecting tube, strongly sclerotized, 1.04× as wide as maximum diameter of spermatheca; with opening 0.64× as wide as diameter of spherical part of body. Distribution. Occurs in 21 European countries and also in Turkey, Israel, Kamchatka ( Russia) and Japan ( Papp & Černý 2019). Ukraine (first record).

Comments. In Ukraine seems to be common.
