Remarks. The observation that two of three initially known specimens of X. pumilae were collected from P. pumila was surprising ( Blank et al. 2013). Xyela pumilae is classified as belonging to the X. julii group, which generally has Pinus (Pinus) species as the larval hosts, while P. pumila is placed in Pinus (Strobus) ( Eckenwalder 2009; Farjon 2010). The unusual association of X. pumila with P. pumila now seems to be corroborated by complementary collection data from five sites, where imagines were again swept from this pine species.
