Distribution: INDIA:ArunachalPradesh-LowerSubansiri, Upper Subansiri, East Kameng, Papumpare, East Siang, West Siang, Lohit, Tirap, Changlang; Throughout eastern and northeastern India upto Krishna river systems. Elsewhere: Bangladesh, Bhutan, Japan, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan, Phillipines, Sri Lanka.
Habit and Habitat: Freshwater, brackish; benthopelagic. Inhabits slow-moving to stagnant standing water bodies like streams, canals, ditches, ponds and beels.
