Danothrips litseae View in CoL sp.n. ( Figs. 1–9 View FIGURES 1 – 9 )

Female macroptera. Body yellow including legs ( Fig. 1 View FIGURES 1 – 9 ). Antennal segments I–V and VII–VIII yellow, VI yellow on basal half and brown distally; fore wing including clavus pale brown with sub-basal and apical areas pale (as in D. salicis, Li et al. 2016 ). Ocellar crescents red. Ovipositor dark yellow. Head wider than long ( Fig. 4 View FIGURES 1 – 9 ), with two pairs of ocellar setae, ocellar seta pair I absent, pair III situated near outside margins of ocellar triangle; transverse sculpture lines present dorsally on posterior fourth; postocular setae 6 pairs, not arranged in a single row, setae I situated just behind posterior ocelli, setae II in front of transverse sculpture lines, setae I–IV minute and much shorter than pairs V and VI. Antenna 8-segmented ( Fig. 8 View FIGURES 1 – 9 ), segment I without dorso-apical setae, segments III and IV each with forked sense cone, long and reaching to mid-point of next segment; segment VI without pedicel, inner sense cone of VI longer than outer, reaching to mid-point of VIII, segment VIII longer than VII. Pronotum broader than long, surface smooth, with one or two transverse striae near anterior and posterior margins; four pairs of posteromarginal setae; two pairs of long posteroangular setae, inner one longer than outer pair; anterolateral margins with a deep depression; ferna divided, probasisternum without setae ( Fig. 5 View FIGURES 1 – 9 ). Mesonotum with anteromedian campaniform sensilla, with transverse anastomosing lines of sculpture, median and submedian pair of setae close to posterior margin ( Fig. 3 View FIGURES 1 – 9 ). Metanotum with transversely striate sculpture but longitudinally striate laterally; median setae placed across middle; distance between median pair of metanotal setae less than the distance between median and submedian; campaniform sensilla present. Meso- and metasternal furca without spinula ( Fig. 2 View FIGURES 1 – 9 ). Fore wing costa with 25 setae, first vein with 10 setae, 1+3+ 3 in basal half and 1+1+ 1 in distal half; second vein with 4–5 setae; clavus with 4 marginal setae and 1 discal seta, apical seta longer than subapical seta. Abdominal tergites completely sculptured with transverse lines; tergite II with 4 lateral marginal setae; VIII without posteromarginal comb ( Fig. 9 View FIGURES 1 – 9 ), with small stippled area near spiracle, a group of microtrichia ahead of the spiracle, tergite IX with two pairs of campaniform sensilla; tergite X not split longitudinally; tergites II–VIII with short and distinct continuous posteromarginal craspeda ( Fig. 6 View FIGURES 1 – 9 ); pleurite area with distinct oblique striations, with sharp teeth posteriorly, without discal setae. Sternites II–VIII with weak, indistinct, scallop-like projections on posterior margin ( Fig. 7 View FIGURES 1 – 9 ), with no discal setae.

Measurements (holotype female in microns). Distended body length 1400. Head length 128; width across eyes 150. Ocellar setae III length 28. Pronotum, length 142; maximum width 195; posteroangular setae length, inner 54, outer 27. Metanotum median setae length 16. Fore wing length 721. Antennal segments I–VIII length 18, 37, 53, 55, 38, 49, 13, 17.

Male. Unknown.

Material studied. Holotype female: INDIA, Assam (Jorhat), on leaves of Litsea , 5.xii.2016, coll. Devkant Singha (Reg. No. 7535/H17) . 5 females, from same locality and date with holotype (Reg. No.7536/H17 to 7540/H17).

Etymology. The species is named after the plant on which it was collected.

Comments. According to the key to known species of Danothrips by Bhatti (1980), this new species is similar to D. moundi , D. setifer and D. salicis in general appearance but can be distinguished by the following character states: ferna not divided in setifer (divided in litseae , moundi and salicis ); probasisternum with setae in moundi (without setae in litseae , salicis and setifer ); pleurotergites with 1–3 discal setae in salicis (without setae in litseae , moundi and setifer ); tergites and sternites without posteromarginal craspeda in setifer (with craspeda in litseae , moundi and salicis ); fore wing median brown band of moundi and setifer is considerably shorter than in litseae and salicis .
