Diagnosis. P. griseobrunnea is similar to P. plurilinearia and P. anthracica in facies, but it can be distinguished from the latter by the generally paler brownish grey to whitish grey wing ground colour and the more prominent dark grey subterminal band of forewing, attenuating towards tornus. On the underside, the postmedial white lines are more distinctive. The male antennae are also shortly bipectinate, but the rounded rami are slightly larger. However, the identification should be confirmed by dissection. The male genitalia of griseobrunnea are similar to those of plurilinearia , but can be distinguished by the strongly tapering uncus with a broader base and often spear-like apices, with a deeper medial bifurcation. The distal process of the valve costa is shorter than in plurilinearia , but the saccular arm longer with a more prominent, broad apex. In the female genitalia, the large lateral sterigma-plates with pointed, ventro-caudal corner, the rather narrow, strongly curved appendix bursae and large triangular signum are distinctive.

Description. Adults: Wingspan 29–35mm. Male antennae bipectinate, with short, rounded rami. Frons with dark greyish-brown and yellowish white scales intermixed. Labial palpi basally covered with white, elongate scales, 2nd and 3rd segments like frons, 3rd segment often with a white tip, whole length of palpus 1.5 times of the eye diameter. Body covered with yellowish white and dark greyish-brown scales and hair-scales, legs whitish. Forewing pale greyish (specimens from Batang) or brownish-grey (A-tun-tse specimens), with brownish or grey, waved transverse lines, antemedial line thin, postmedial area consisting of several parallel waved lines, bordered by a yellowish white, more or less prominent band; subterminal band dark brown or grey, narrowed at middle and dorsum, distally bordered by the white, strogly waved subterminal line; central band often conspicuous. Underside paler than upperside, with a small, dark brown discal dot, dark brownish or grey postmedial line and subterminal band. A band between the latter two greyish-white or white. Other transverse lines absent. Hindwing paler than forewing, transverse lines often indistinct, postmedial area sometimes consisting of several faint, parallel, waved lines; subterminal line indistinct. Underside very similar to forewing underside, also with a small discal dot. Male genitalia: Uncus moderately broad at base, tapering towards apex, distally deeply bifurcated, more or less spearlike; tegumen hood-like, with two rounded protrusions, as long as vinculum; saccus broad, shallow; juxta sclerotized, tripod-like. Valva: costa medially roundly expanded, distal tip only slightly projecting beyond valve lamina; sacculus long with a long distal arm, the latter strongly expanded distally. Aedeagus stout; vesica hammer-head shaped, with three rows of small spinular cornuti and a plate-like cornutus. Female genitalia: Papillae anales simple, rounded; posterior apophyses five times as long as anterior apophyses; sterigma-plates large, with broadly rounded anterior lobes; ductus bursae short, with a colliculum; corpus bursae slender, elliptical, with a triangular sclerotized signum, appendix bursae sclerotized, ovate.

Distribution. China (southwestern): North Yuennan, Sichuan.

Etymology. The name refers to the grey and brown ground colour of the wings.
