Diagnosis. The new species is similar to P. conturbata in wing pattern elements, but can be distinguished by the generally paler grey wing colour with lighter transverse lines and the smaller wingspan. The transverse fasciae of the underside are more distinctive in subfasciata . The male antennae are moderately bipectinate as in conturbata , rami a little shorter. In the male genitalia the uncus is even broader at base, almost quadrate laterally, also medially incurved and dilated distally, but drawn into a pair of processes with a deeper incision between them. The distal portion of the valve costa is shorter and rather stout, with a broad and rounded tip, the medial area dilated and curved outwards, the slender saccular arm curves dorsally and is not expanded at tip. The general shape of the female genitalia is very similar to that of griseobrunnea , but the lateral plates of the sterigma are even larger and extended triangularly at the ventro-caudal corner (evenly rounded in griseobrunnea ). The much narrower appendix bursae can also separate subfasciata from the latter.

Description. Adults: Wingspan 28–29mm. Male antennae bipectinate with moderately long rami (length about two times the diameter of the flagellum segment). Frons smoothly scaled with dark grey and white scales, vertex with larger, obliquely upright scales of the same colour. Chaetosemata large. Collar with strongly enlarged, quadrate scales. Labial palpi slightly longer than eye diameter, scaled like frons dorsally and distally, with elongated white upright scales ventrally on basal segment, distal segment small, tapering. Thorax dorsally covered with different types of scales, most of them dark grey with a white tip, tegulae with elongated scales of different length and hair-scales. Underside of thorax whitish, legs covered with dark grey and white scales, hind legs lighter, of the same colour as the underside of the abdomen which is darker dorsally. Forewings pale greyish, with darker and lighter undulating, transverse lines. Medial and basal area dark grey, the latter divided by a whitish line. A lighter antemedial band as well as a whitish-grey fascia present, just distal to the postmedial line which is outwardly projecting in the middle. Submarginal and apical area dark grey, with a dentate to sinuous, narrow, white subterminal line. A discal dot present. Hindwings concolorous with forewings, also with a lighter, postmedial band. Margin of both wings waved, with a black base-line. Underside basally and medially greyish, postmedial line dark grey, in some specimens almost black, bordered by a white band, subtermen dark grey, termen and apex pale grey. Hindwing similar, with three narrow, parallel, transverse lines between the discal dot and the postmedian dark band, the latter less conspicuous compared to the forewing. Male genitalia: Uncus broad and stout, basally straight, almost quadrate laterally, medially weakly incurved, distally dilated, with a pair of processes at tip and a rather deep incision between them (two times as long as in conturbata ); saccus simple; juxta sclerotized, broadly bilobed caudally, a narrow, acutely tapering process distally. Valva with costa medially largely expanded, distal process rather short and broad. Saccular sclerotized region long, with a slender distal arm, curving dorsally, tip not expanded. Aedeagus slender, rather long, with a medial protrusion; vesica narrow, with a short field of small spinular cornuti, partly arranged in 4–5 rows, and a slender plate-like cornutus, at some distance to the field of cornuti. Female genitalia: Papillae anales simple, rounded; posterior apophyses three times as long as the anterior ones; lateral, shield-like plates of sterigma large, extended triangularly at the ventro-caudal corner; corpus bursae large, ovate, with a triangular, heavily sclerotized signum with minutely dentate ridges, appendix bursae rather small and narrow, a fingerlike, curved diverticulum, strongly sclerotized with exception of the hyalinous tip giving rise to the ductus seminalis.

Distribution. China (southwestern: Sichuan, Yuennan).

Etymology. The name refers to the distinctly developed postmedial fasciae on the underside of the wings.
