Material examined. CHINA: Hebei Province, Weichang County, Qipan Town (42°10’ N, 117°57’ E), alt. 1800 m, light trap, 1 male, 17. vii. 2001, Yuhong Guo (BDN No. 23387).

Diagnostic characters. The adult male can be separated from other members of the genus by having a large humeral pit and two small pale alveoli beside humeral pit; inferior volsella with anterior and posterior margins parallel, distinctly rectangular, 38 Μm long, 23 Μm wide.

Additions to description. Chinese specimens had the following measurements: Total length 3.12 mm. Wing length 1.83 mm. Total length/wing length 1.7. Wing length / length of profemur 2.3. AR 1.66. Temporal setae 11. Clypeus with 10 setae. Tentorium 163 µm long, 50 µm wide. Stipes 155 µm long, 10 µm wide. Palpomere 5/ 3 1.75. Squama with 15 fringe hairs, R with 5 setae. Dorsocentrals 23, prealars 3. Scutellum with 5 setae. Sensilla chaetica on ta1 of P3 not clear. Laterosternite IX with 4 long setae. Phallapodeme 75 Μm long; transverse sternapodeme 120 Μm long, with oral projections. Gonocoxite 215 Μm long; with many long setae. Superior volsella small and rounded. Inferior volsella rectangular, 38 Μm long, 23 Μm wide, with 9 long marginal setae. Gonostylus 105 Μm long, with high rounded crista dorsalis. Megaseta 13 µm long. HR 2.0, HV 3.0.

Distribution. The species previously was known only from Italy. The Chinese specimen was collected in Hebei Province (Palaearctic China).

Remarks. The Chinese specimens are very similar to the original description in Rossaro 1990. According to the original description and the material examined here, P. lanzavechiai may be a synonym of P. rufiventris (Meigen) . However, as the larvae are unknown the species should be kept separate for the moment.
