Description

Male. Integument brownish-black, head and prothorax covered with greyish pubescence, pronotum with indistinct median longitudinal yellowish vitta. Antennae brownish; scape, pedicel and antennomeres III–IV with fringe of long hairs at ventral side. Elytra glossy, with yellow suture line and 3–4 interrupted latero-longitudinal vittae, externalmost vitta entire in distal half. Head with coronal suture from occiput to clypeus; surface very finely punctate; distance between upper ocular lobes 4 times height of one lobe. Frons separated from genae by longitudinal carina; genae twice longer than height of inferior ocular lobe. Antennal tubercles slightly projected; antennae exceeding elytral extremity at apex of antennomere VIII; antennomere III as long as scape; antennomere IV ¾ length of scape. Prothorax cylindrical, unarmed laterally; pronotum transversely rugose, finely and sparsely punctate. Prosternal process depressed, 1/3 width of procoxal cavities. Mesosternal process declivous anteriorly, without tubercle, ¾ width of mesocoxal cavities. Scutellum rounded at apex. Elytra finely and sparsely punctate, more shallowly punctate towards apex; humeri slightly projected; extremities rounded. Femorae fusiform. Last urotergite and urosternite transversely truncated at apex.

Female. Antennae exceeding elytral extremity at apex of antennomere X; last urotergite and urosternite subrounded at apex.

Etymology

The species is named as a tribute to Dr Steven W. Lingafelter, for his friendship and valuable contributions to the study of Cerambycidae .

Measurements (mm)

Paratypes: Brazil, Rio de Janeiro: Parque Nacional do Itatiaia , female, November 1953, S .A. Fragoso ; idem, 750 m, female, 26–30 December 2008, M .L. and M.A. Monné; ( Maromba , 1200 m), male, female, 26 December 1953, Seabra and Alvarenga; male, female, 2 January 1954, Seabra, Alvarenga and Zikán . All in MNRJ .

Comments

This species differs from P. patruelis in the rounded antennal tubercles and the lessevident median longitudinal vittae of the pronotum. It differs from P. chalcograma in the

coalescent or uninterrupted vittae of the elytra, and in having the mesosternal process anteriorly declivous, subtuberculate.
