( Figs. 1–4 View FIGURES 1 – 4 )
Diagnosis: acrostichal 0:1; dorsocentral 2:4; mid femur with two preapical setae; hind tibia with one submedian anterodorsal seta; calypters with darkened borders; wing with dark cloud running from Sc to R2+3; r-m and dm-cu with dark clouds; base of epandrium, in profile, strongly projected.
Color: general body coloration yellow; frons yellow, apex light brown; facialia, parafacialia, gena, antenna and palpus yellow; scutum brown with four light stripes of grey pruinosity; calypters yellow, the inferior calypter with darkened border; halter yellow; wing hyaline, with dark cloud running from Sc to R2+3; r-m and dm-cu with dark clouds.
Male. Length. Body: 5.5 mm; wing: 6 mm.
Head: eyes separated from each other by 0.1 mm, at level of ocellar tubercle; 11 pairs of convergent frontal setae; ocellar seta large and parallel; postocellar seta small and divergent; inner vertical seta small and convergent; outer vertical seta small and divergent.
Thorax: acrostichal 0:1; dorsocentral 2:4; intra-alar 1; apex of fore tibia with setae on dorsal, posterodorsal, posteroventral and ventral surfaces; mid femur with a row of setae on posteroventral and anteroventral surfaces from base to middle, reappearing near apex; mid femur with two preapical setae, on posterodorsal and posterior surfaces; apex of mid tibia with setae on anterior, anterodorsal, dorsal, posterodorsal, posterior, posteroventral, ventral and anteroventral surfaces; hind femur with a complete row of dorsal and anteroventral setae, and a row of posteroventral setae from base to middle, reappearing near apex; hind tibia with one submedian anterodorsal seta and three submedian anteroventral setae; hind tibia with anterior, anterodorsal, dorsal, ventral and anteroventral setae at apex; wing with one dorsal and two ventral setae at apex of stem vein.
Abdomen: fifth sternite with a pronounced concavity at apex; epandrium base strongly projected, in profile; cercus, in posterior view, winding and with pointed apex; paramere with one seta.
Female: unknown.
Comments: N. anajeensis sp. nov. can be distinguished from other species by the notorious brown scutum with four light stripes; a comprehensive examination of the morphology of the male terminalia revealed features not found in any other species examined here, as for instance the base of the epandrium strongly projected and the shape of the cercal plate.
Etymology: refers to the type-locality, Anagé. Although the locality name is spelled with ‘g’, the names derived from the tupi language (Brazilian native indigenous language) are transcribed with the letter ‘j’.
Type material examined: Holotype: male, specimen in good condition; label: white, printed “ BRASIL, Bahia, Anajé / 15–24.V.1975 / C. Elias leg ” \ label: red, printed HOLOTYPE; abdomen dissected and stored in a microvial with glycerin; deposited in DZUP. Type-locality: Anagé, Bahia, Brazil.
Geographical distribution: Brazil (Bahia [type-locality]).
