Type:—‘ COLOMBIA: Magdalena: Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, southeastern slopes: Hoya del Río Donachuí ; between Laguna Esacuriba and the big rocks about 3870 m altitude; rocky páramo 4043– 3870 m alt… 6 October 1959, José Cuatrecasas & Rafael Romero Castañeda 24618 ’ (lectotype: US 00123281!, designated here; isolectotypes: COL 00005392 !, P 01816815 !, US 00123280!, US 001100582!, UTM 0000058 !). Distribution and Habitat ( Fig. 5 ): — Senecio doryphyllus occurs in montane forests and páramos of Colombia, at elevations of 2400–4400 m.

Note:— Senecio doryphyllus is apparently close to S. patens ; both species share the leaf shape (being predominately oblong) and blade margin (being dentate), and their calycular bracts are scarcely developed. However, leaves are sessile or slightly attenuated at the base in S. doryphyllus and petiolate (occasionally semiamplexicaul) in S. patens .
