Distribution and Habitat ( Fig. 5 View FIGURE 5 ): — Senecio candollei occurs in the Andes of northwest Argentina, Bolivia, N of Chile and Peru, at elevations of 2300–4980 m.

Note: — Senecio candollei is highly variable in leaf shape and leaf margins, and the number of phyllaries. Senecio modestus is characterized in the protologue by spathulate-lanceolate leaves, solitary, discoid and nodding capitula. However, our analysis concludes that there are no constant characters to differentiate this species from S. candollei .
