Senecio otophorus Weddell var. microcephalus Hieronymus (1894: 66) . Type :—‘ ECUADOR: Crescit in regione fruticetorum supremorum ad Páramo de Huairacaja , Chaning et Pilzhum Andium orientalium Prov. Cuenca, alt. s. m. 3000–3300 m, ubi floret mense octobri [F. C. Lehmann] 4912 ’ (lectotype: K 000497728 !, designated by Calvo & Freire (2016: 123); isolectotype: F 0076964 F!).

Senecio yacuanquensis Cuatrecasas (1944: 30) . Lasiocephalus yacuanquensis (Cuatrecasas) Cuatrecasas (1978: 312) , syn. nov. Type:— ‘ COLOMBIA, Departamento de Nariño: Yacuanquer, zona fría al norte de Yacuanquer. Colect. 4 enero 1943 Miguel De Garganta 495 ’ (holotype: COL 000005459!; isotype: F 0077022F!).

Senecio otophorus Weddell var. panduratus Cuatrecasas (1950: 38) . Type:—‘ ECUADOR. Prov. Azuay: Páramos in vicinity of Toreador , between Molleturo and Quinoas, altitude 3810–3930 met. collect. J. A. Steyermark 53206 jun. 15, 1943 ’ (lectotype: F 0076965 F!, designated by Calvo & Freire (2016: 123); isolectotypes: GH 00009580 !, NY 00259321 !, US 00123334!).

Senecio otophorus Weddell var. christophori Cuatrecasas (1951: 22) . Type:—‘ COLOMBIA, Dep. Cundinamarca: Bogotá, San Cristóbal 3000–3300 m. alt.… Collect. Sept. 1917, F. W. Pennell 2047 ’ (holotype: NY 00259320 !; isotypes: GH 00009579 !, F 0051346 F!, US 00123333!).

Distribution and Habitat ( Fig. 5 ): — Senecio otophorus occurs in the páramos of Colombia, and Ecuador, at elevations of 3000–4300 m.

Note — Cuatrecasas (1944) described Senecio yacuanquensis , distinguishing it from S. ophorus by the absence of auricles in its leaves. After studying in detail S. yacuanquensis type material, we conclude that it has auriculate leaves. For this reason, S. yacuanquensis is here considered synonymous with S. otophorus .
