Genus Destinoides Cai & He View in CoL

Destinoides Cai & He, 2000: 57 View in CoL

Type species: Destinoides fasciata Cai & He View in CoL , by original designation (= D. latifrons (Walker)) View in CoL .

Diagnosis. Destinoides is similar to Petalocephala and Destinia but can be distinguished by: crown shorter, about half as long as wide, longer than pronotum in the middle (crown of Destinia shorter than pronotum); body more robust; pronotum without lateral extensions ( Tituria , Thlasia , Dusuna and Neotituria with lateral extensions); pronotum not declivous or humped; lateral margins of crown immediately in front of eyes usually parallel to convergent; scutellum longer than pronotum (similar to Destinia , scutellum of Petalocephala usually shorter than pronotum); pygofer without process on upper hind angle ( Destinia with a horizontal process); style slender and flat (style of Destinia thick), curved ventrally at apex, with a small subapical tooth laterally (style of Petalocephala without any tooth).

Description. Body medium to large (9–15mm) and robust. Lateral margins of head and pronotum dark. Dorsum densely punctate, acinose ( Figs. 1–6 View FIGURES 1–6 ).

Head about as wide as pronotum, flat; longer than anterior margin of scutellum. Crown smooth, slightly convex, produced forward, anterior margin angulate, setae absent. Coronal suture complete and distinct ( Figs. 1, 4 View FIGURES 1–6 ). Ocelli welldeveloped, near posterior margin of crown, equidistant from eye and each other ( Figs. 1, 4 View FIGURES 1–6 ). Head approximately as long as half width between eyes, concave in lateral view ( Figs. 1, 2, 4, 5 View FIGURES 1–6 ). Clypeal suture distinct. Frontoclypeus narrow and convex, broadened medially; frontoclypeus apical extension not well-defined. Anteclypeus small, distinctly convex, parallel-sided and extending beyond gena. Lora and genae flat ( Figs. 3, 6 View FIGURES 1–6 ). Antennae slightly longer than eye, extended nearly to margin of face; antennal ledges not distinct ( Figs. 3, 6 View FIGURES 1–6 ). Proepisternum large and quadrate ( Figs. 3, 6 View FIGURES 1–6 ). Pronotum broad and flat, anterior margin slightly convex, posterior margin slightly concave ( Figs. 1–6 View FIGURES 1–6 ). Scutellum triangular, shorter than head. Scutellar suture distinct, reaching lateral margin ( Figs. 1, 4 View FIGURES 1–6 ). Forewing punctate, venation regular in basal area, reticulate apically; appendix reduced ( Figs. 2, 5 View FIGURES 1–6 ). Hind wings hyaline, fully-developed. Pro- and mesothoracic leg chaetotaxy reduced. Hind femur macrosetal formula 2 + 1; hind tibia with 5 to 8 stout and enlarged setae perpendicular to axis of leg anterodorsally (AD); posterodorsal (PD) setae short and fine; anteroventral (AV) and posteroventral (PV) setae shorter and finer.

Male 8th sternite about as long as 7th sternite, posterior margin strongly concave medially ( Figs. 13 View FIGURES 7–13 , 20 View FIGURES 14–20 ). Male pygofer almost triangular, without macrosetae; ventroposterior margin with dorsally directed process ( Figs. 10 View FIGURES 7–13 , 17 View FIGURES 14–20 ). Subgenital plates ligulate and depressed, fused at base, tapered to rounded apex, with numerous short setae on ventral surface ( Figs. 11 View FIGURES 7–13 , 18 View FIGURES 14–20 ). Aedeagal shaft tubular or slightly lamellate, curved dorsally, generally with single and paired processes arising terminally ( Figs. 7, 8 View FIGURES 7–13 , 14, 15 View FIGURES 14–20 ). Style slender and flat, curved ventrally at apex, with a small subapical tooth laterally ( Figs. 7, 8 View FIGURES 7–13 , 14, 15 View FIGURES 14–20 ). Connective short, T-shaped ( Figs. 7–9 View FIGURES 7–13 , 14–16 View FIGURES 14–20 ).
