Figs. 170–175 View FIGURES 170–175 , 199 View FIGURES 197–199 .

Egle podulparia Suh View in CoL & Kwon’; Petersen 2001: 184 (in part). Misidentification.

Etymology. Named after Masaaki Suwa (Sapporo, Japan) in recognition of his outstanding taxonomic work on East Palaearctic and Oriental Anthomyiidae .

Description. Very similar to Egle minuta but different as follows:

Male. Terminalia ( Figs. 170–175 View FIGURES 170–175 ): Sternite V with 0–1 setula postero-laterally on basal plade. Epandrium without setulae on lateral parts (as in E. parva and E. lyneborgi ). Surstyli narrow-based alongside margins of cerci (as in E. parva and E. lyneborgi ). Apical extension of cerci broader, not constricted on basal part. Pregonite wider than long. Phallus with smaller and apically less inflated epiphallus.

Female. Specimens presently identified as Egle suwai are almost indiscernible from females of E. lyneborgi . Only the oviscapt ( Fig. 199 View FIGURES 197–199 ) reveals a few minor differences: Sternite VII as narrow as in E. minuta , but sclerotized even on middle section as in E. lyneborgi . Hypoproct more reduced than in E. minuta , but less so than in E. lyneborgi and with 3–4 setulae.

Material examined. Type material [ ZMUC]: DENMARK: S Jutland: Sønderskoven, Als , 1 male (holotype) 6.iv.1982 ( V. Michelsen). Funen: Middelfart, 2 males 19–22.iv.1984 ( T. Pape). NE Zealand: Kalvebod Faelled, 14 males, 1 female 18.iii.1990 ( V. Michelsen); Utterslev Mose, 1 male 29.iv.1984, 1 male 14.v.1984, 3 males 1.iv.2008, 2 males 28.iv.2008, 1 male, 1 female 29.iv.2008 ( V. Michelsen); Smør-/ Fedtmosen, 2 males 7.iv.1981 ( V. Michelsen) . SWEDEN: Skåne: Klagshamnsudde , 2 males, 4.iv.2008 ( V. Michelsen). Åbrolla, Osby, 1 male 3.iv.2007 ( V. Michelsen). Småland: Kärshult, Sporda, 1 male 2–3.v.2008 ( V. Michelsen) .

Biology. The adults have been taken in Denmark on flowering Grey willow ( Salix cinerea L.).

Distribution. Presently only known by the type material from Denmark and south Sweden, but Egle suwai has obviously been confused with other species of the E. minuta species group. A wider distribution in Europe and possibly elsewhere can be expected.

Relationships. Egle suwai belongs to the E. minuta species group within the E. minuta section (see above).
