Description. Male. Differs from E. myricariae as follows: Lower facial margin projected well beyond level of prominent fronto-parafacial angle. Parafacial accordingly broader on middle and lower parts. Haustellum longer and slenderer, 0.8–1.0 as long as fore tibia; palp accordingly considerably shorter than haustellum. Hind femur with pv-setae longer, almost as long as femoral depth where situated; hind tibia with short pvsetae more abundant. Terminalia ( Figs. 46–51 View FIGURES 46–51 ) very similar to those of E. myricariae but differ most obviously in having: Surstyli apically with a tiny, slender process armed with a single thick seta; thick setae distally on apical extension of cerci much shorter; postgonite less pronouncedly bilobed. Female. According to Grossmann (1998): parafrontals broader, same width as frontal stripe; head in dorsal view with grey ocellar triangle well demarcated from blackish upper frontal stripe. Oviscap not examined, supposedly very similar to that of E. myricariae .

Material examined. CHINA [ ZMUC]: Qinghai: Zaidam, river Bomyn = Itschegyn , 1 male [syntype] late June 1895 ( V. I. Roborovsky) .

Biology. Unknown, but the species is so close morphologically to Egle myricariae that its larva predictably also attacks inflorescences of Myricaria , a genus represented by several species at high altitudes in the northern provinces of China, preferably growing in sandy places at rivers and lakesides ( Yang & Gaskin 2007).

Distribution. Only known by the type series from China: Qinghai: Zaidam.

Relationships. See above under ‘The Egle longirostris species group’
