Genus Sclerostomulus Weinreich, 1960 View in CoL new status

Type species: Dorcus tuberculatus Solier, 1851 , by original designation ( Weinreich 1960: 88).

Description. Sexual dimorphism negligible. Length: 9.9–13.7 mm. Width: 3.2–5.2 mm. Head: Width subequal to width of one elytron. Vertex weakly excavated medially from base to anterolateral angles, punctate; punctures fine, scarce on elevation, elsewhere moderate and dense becoming coarse basally. Margin of excavation above antennal insertion elevated, subtuberculate. Gena rounded, appearing continuous with anterior angle of head. Labrum produced anteriorly, tuberculate at center. Mandibles in both sexes of general female sclerostomine form (apex acute with 1 internal tooth). Antennae almost completely glabrous but with scattered short setae, tomentosity confined to extreme apical portion of club antennomeres. Pronotum: Convex, nearly as long as wide. Disc anteromedially with fovea bordered by 1 posterior and 2 lateral, variably developed tubercles; fovea punctate; punctures coarse, dense. Lateral margins almost parallel basally, weakly convergent anteriorly. Anterior angles produced, obtuse. Elytra: Form elongate to suboval. Surface lacking visible vestiture. Disc not striate, serially or irregularly punctate; punctures moderate, dense. Impunctate irregular carinate present or not. Wings: Fully winged or brachypterous. Legs: Metatibia at middle with small external tooth and 1–3 smaller proximal teeth. Male genitalia: Genital capsule and aedeagus simple, lacking lobes. Everted internal sac simple, saclike, increasing in diameter distally (Fig. 8).

Diagnosis. The trituberculate pronotum of both sexes is distinct among the Sclerostomini. This is also the only genus in the tribe in which species do not display obvious sexual dimorphism.
