Description. Body length (including tegmina), male: 6.4–6.6mm; female: 6.4–6.6mm.
Body robust, brownish. Face ( Fig 3. B View FIGURE 3 ) brown. Pronotum ( Fig 3. A, C View FIGURE 3 ) brown with dense wrinkle and numerous yellowish macules. Mesonotum ( Fig 3. A, C View FIGURE 3 ) dark brown; lateral margin of scutellum ( Fig 3. A, C View FIGURE 3 ) yellow. Tegmen ( Fig 3. E View FIGURE 3 ) brown; veins marked with callous tubercles; appendix dark in coloration. Male and female tegmina ( Fig 3. A, E, F View FIGURE 3 ) with pale transverse band in the middle section. Apex of female pygofer ( Fig 3. G View FIGURE 3 ) dark brown.
Head nearly as wide as pronotum; anterior margin ( Fig 3. D View FIGURE 3 ) with transverse ridge. Crown ( Fig 3. A, C, F View FIGURE 3 ) rounded and slightly produced; coronal suture ( Fig 3. D View FIGURE 3 ) distinct; anterior and posterior margin nearly parallel; medial length somewhat longer than next to eyes; transversely concave subapically, with dense longitudinal wrinkles. Ocelli ( Fig 3. D View FIGURE 3 ) situated on anterior margin of head when viewed from above; approximately three times own diameter from corresponding eyes; lateral frontal sutures ( Fig 3. B, D View FIGURE 3 ) extending to corresponding ocelli. Face ( Fig 3. B View FIGURE 3 ) triangular; frontoclypeus broad proximally and slightly narrow apically; epistomal suture distinct; anteclypeus with median longitudinal carina; constricted near base and slightly expanded apically; gena ( Fig 3. B View FIGURE 3 ) with fine wrinkles. Pronotum ( Fig 3. C View FIGURE 3 ) with lateral margin very short; discal and posterior region slightly swollen. Front tibia slightly broadening dorsally. Hind femur setal formula 2+1.
Male pygofer side ( Fig 3–4. H, I View FIGURE 3 View FIGURE 4 ) long, tapering apically without dorsoposterior process, with several macrosetae. Valve ( Fig 4. J, K View FIGURE 4 ) semicircular. Subgenital plate ( Fig 4. J, K View FIGURE 4 ) finger-like and curved dorsad; wide basally and tapering distally; lateral margin with scattered microsetae. Style ( Fig 4. J, K, L View FIGURE 4 ) with apical process elongate and blunt; lateral lobe slightly protruding, with microsetae. Connective ( Fig 4. M View FIGURE 4 ) Y-shaped; stem approximately as long as anterior arms. Aedeagal shaft ( Fig 4. N, O, P View FIGURE 4 ) curved dorsad with pair of slim laterobasal processes, extending beyond apex of shaft; inner margin of processes serrate; gonopore ( Fig 4. N, O View FIGURE 4 ) apical.
Female genitalia. 3 rd Valvulae ( Fig 3. G View FIGURE 3 ) conspicuously surpassing apex of pygofer.
Material examined. Holotype: ♂, Indonesia, Seram , Gunung Binaia north slopes, 2000m, Upper montane forest, Aug.-Sept. 1987, coll. J. D. Holloway, D. T. Jones et al., Operation Raleigh . Paratypes: 3♂ 2♀, same data as holotype ; 1♂ 5♀, same data as holotype except 1500m, lower montane forest ; 1♀, same data as holotype except 1200m, lower montane forest. All BMNH .
Etymology. The new species is named in honor of Dr. C. A. Viraktamath, who has made great contributions to taxonomic study of the Oriental Cicadellidae .
Remarks: This new species is similar to D. stilliformis sp. nov. but differs in coloration and in the male genitalia by the longer aedeagal processes and less pronounced lateral lobe of the style.
