Agrilus parapubescens Knull 1934:68 View in CoL ; 1944:79, plate II, fig. 11. Syn. nov.

Fisher's original description of this species was based on four specimens reared from Acacia greggii with a "Tanke Verde" Arizona locality label. One of these was designated as " Type ", Cat. No. 41015, U.S. N.M., one as the allotype and the other two as paratypes and all reared from catclaw, Acacia greggii Gray. He also designated in his original description, 11 other paratype specimens from several localities in western Texas. Unfortunately, he did not illustrate the male genitalia of A. pubescens . Thus, it appears that Knull, before describing A. parapubescens , had not examined the holotype of Fisher's A. pubescens , but based his concept of A. parapubescens from some of Fisher's Texas paratype material. This is borne out from several Texas collected specimens I have examined, that bear Knull's personal collection and/or identification labels. Thus, when Knull obtained a different appearing specimen from Wilcox, Arizona, he erroneously concluded that it represented a new species of Agrilus , which, in 1934, he described and named A. parapubescens . Then later, in 1944, he illustrated its male genitalia, which appear to closely match those of A. pubescens . This name is now recognized as a new synonym of that species.

New Arizona collection records for A. pubescens include the following: Gila Co., Sixshooter Canyon, near Globe, 18-VI-59, R. L. Westcott; Clear Cr. Cmpgnd., near Camp Verde, Yavapai Co., 3200'.
