Diagnosis: Therophilus shimborii sp. n. can be distinguished from all other species in the genus by the following combination of characters: mandibles white with melanic teeth; coloration mostly yellow; wings evenly infuscate.

Description. Holotype female (DCBU435173) ( Fig. 1 View FIGURES 1–6 ). Body length 4.63 mm. Syntergite 2+3 length: 0.86 mm., width: 0.72 mm. Ovipositor length 3.70 mm. Antenna with 28 – 30 flagellomeres. Head mostly yellow except for melanic scape, flagellomeres and occiput at the ocellar triangle. Mandibles white with melanic teeth ( Fig. 2 View FIGURES 1–6 ). Interantennal space with one keel-like carina declining posteriorly. Propleuron yellow. Mesoscutum yellow ( Fig. 4 View FIGURES 1–6 ), notauli meeting and crenulate on posterior third. Propodeum usually yellow, rarely melanic. Sclerite between coxa and metasomal foramen complete and narrow. Hind legs yellow except for distal tip of tibia and tarsi (melanic). Metasoma mostly yellow posterior three terga brownish ( Fig. 5 View FIGURES 1–6 ). First metasomal tergum smooth with two well defined carinae extending to 2/3 of tergum length and diverging medially ( Fig. 5 View FIGURES 1–6 ). Wings ( Fig. 6 View FIGURES 1–6 ) evenly hyaline or pale. Fore wing cubital cell triangular and sessile, RS+M vein incomplete and tubular in less than ¼ its length.

Biology. Specimens collected in areas of Cerrado (Brazilian Savannah) and Atlantic rainforest.
Etymology. Species named in honor of Eduardo Mitio Shimbori, our colleague specialist in Braconidae .
