Type Locality: E Kazakhstan, 100 km west of Semipalatinsk, near Grachevsk.

Vernacular Names: Striped Desert Hamster.

Distribution: E Kazakhstan and SW Siberia.

Conservation: IUCN – Lower Risk (lc).

Discussion: Safronova et al. (1992) referenced chromosomal data to justify the separation of campbelli from P. sungorus .
