Carterica cincticornis View in CoL ; Bates, 1872: 238 (dist.; misidentification).

Comparison of photograph of the holotype of Carterica pygmaea (see Bezark 2017, Maes 2010) with the specimen from Nicaragua (Mataglapa, Selva Negra Mountain Resort) in Maes (2010), affirms that they are different species. The Maes (2010) specimen is much more slender and has different proportions between head, prothorax and elytra so it is very likely an undescribed species. Nearly all specimens examined by us through photographs or the single specimen deposited at MZSP, show slender specimens, in some cases, with distinctly longer legs. However, until additional specimens are available it is not possible to know if more than one species is represented among them.
