Remarks
Yin & Zhang (1983) reported Raphidascaroides myliobatum from the stomach of the Japanese eagle ray Myliobatis tobijei Bleeker (Rajiformes: Myliobatidae ) from the Taiwan Strait (off Chongwu, Fujian Province, China). We examined a pair of paratypes of this species and the morphology of R. myliobatum is identical with the diagnostic characters of Mawsonascaris including the lips possessing dentigerous ridges, the presence of interlabia and a gubernaculum, the absence of a ventricular appendage and the spicules being distinctly unequal. Therefore, we have transferred this species to Mawsonascaris . In the genus Mawsonascaris , M. myliobatum can be easily distinguished from congeners by the number of caudal papillae (26–28 pairs in the former versus 14–17 pairs in congeners).
