Type material. Holotype of Dysanellus (Leptodiastemus) excellens , male, with labels as follow: “Argentina, Tucumán, 15.Oct.1929 ” / “3155” / “H. E. Box. leg.” / “ excellens Brnhr. Typ. un.” / “ Leptodiastemus excellens Brnh. Typus unic” / “Chicago NHMus M. Bernhauer Collection”. Deposited in FMNH. Type materials for X. sancticamillus as indicated in Caron et al. (2016).

Remarks. Bernhauer (1934) described D. excellens in the subgenus Leptodiastemus to differentiate between the securiform labial palpi (present in D. bruchi Bernhauer and D. transverserugosus Bernhauer ) and the truncate labial palpi of D. excellens . Leptodiastemus Bernhauer is here placed in synonymy with Xenopygus Bernhauer. However , if the punctatus species group is at some point removed from Xenopygus (see Discussion below) Leptodiastemus would be an appropriate name for these species.
