Note: —Chao (in Chou et al. 1984) considered Salix dolia similar to S. rehderiana , and treated it as a variety of S. rehderiana . Soon after this study, Chao & Zhou (1985) accepted S. dolia and reduced S. rehderiana to its synonym without explanation. Li (1993) supported a view that S. rehderiana and S. dolia represent the same species but considered S. rehderiana as the accepted name. Subsequently, Chao & Gong (in Zhao et al. 2012) treated S. rehderiana as a variety, S. dolia var. rehderiana .
The author did not find relevant differences between the type specimens of Salix rehderiana and S. dolia . Hence, the author followed Chao & Zhou (1985) and Li (1993) in considering them conspecific. However, S. rehderiana and S. dolia were published in the same volume by Schneider (1916), and therefore have equal nomenclatural priority. Therefore, under the Art. 11.5 of the ICN (Melbourne Code, McNeill et al. 2012), the correct name must be S. rehderiana because S. dolia was treated as a variety of S. rehderiana ( S. rehderiana var. dolia ) by Chao (in Chou et al. 1984) who first united these two taxa.
