Centris (Paracentris) hyptidoides View in CoL ; Moure et al. (2007: 115) (catalogue).

Comments. This species is very similar to C. hyptidis , being different in the female by the more developed and curved fore elaiospathes, with four giant setae of acute apex beside the primary anterior comb (absent in C. hyptidis ) and by the yellowish golden pilosity on T4–T6 (in C. hyptidis the pilosity of T4 is black, and white in T5 and T6). The males of C. hyptidoides and C. hyptidis are almost structurally indistinguishable, being differentiated by the length of F1 (3.2 times longer than F 2 in C. hyptidoides and 2.9 times in C. hyptidis ), by the band of yellow pilosity of T1 (continuous in C. hyptidoides and interrupted in middle in C. hyptidis ), and pilosity on T4 (in C. hyptidoides , the apical margin have a complete narrow band of plumose hairs, while in C. hyptidis , the band is restricted to lateral portions of tergum). The male of C. hyptidoides is described below for the first time.

Description of the male. Measurements: approximate body length: 12.6; head width: 4.76; forewing legth: 9.4; F1 length: 0.55; F2 length: 0.17; F3 length: 0.3; mandible length: 1.8; mandible basal width: 0.8. Coloration: black, with clypeus, labrum, mandibular base, tibial base, paraocular area, supraclipeal area and scape beneath yellow. Wing membrane translucent, slightly infuscated. Pilosity: yellow on head and mesosoma. On ventral area of mesosoma, forelegs, external surface of midtibia, gena, T1, T5 and T6 withish. T2 to T4, S2 to S4, mid and hindlegs with black hairs, except basis of hind tibiae with yellow setae. On S4–S6 dark brown, with long bristles, forming a semicircular comb. Integument: paraocular area with fine punctures, denser and more marked on vertex, coarser on labrum and clypeus, the latter mostly dull due to fine microsculpture. Metasoma with very dense and fine punctures in T1 and T2, becoming less dense towards the apex of metasoma. Structure: mandible tridentate, 2.2 times longer than wide. Trimmal angle straight, but reduced. Acetabular carina ending at the base of the third tooth. Labrum semicircular. Ocular orbits divergent above. Hind femora with posterior longitudinal carina. Hind tibia swelled. Pygidial plate present, slightly elevated and apically bifurcated.

Floral record: see Table 1.
