Type locality. Sicily, Agrigento, Sicani Mountains, Caltabellotta , 520m ( Fig. 230 View FIGURES 227–230 ) .

Diagnosis. A medium or large size Solariola (TL: 2.85–3.40 mm; BL: 2.35–2.80 mm) belonging to the doderoi group with slender body. Within the species group, it is recognisable by reddish-brown cuticle, the elongate elytra with short recumbent setae and the carinae on rostrum divergent to sides. Rostrum elongate (RL: 0.45–0.50 mm, RW: 0.30–0.38 mm, RL/RW: 1.32–1.50). Mesorostrum carinae divergent to sides. Forehead convex (FW/MW: ratio 2.40–2.60). Submentum and mesorostrum with thick and elongate pappolepida. Antennae elongate and thin (SL: 0.55–0.65 mm, FL: 0.75–0.85 mm, SL/FL: 0.73–0.76). Pronotum slightly elongate (PL: 0.65–0.75 mm, PW: 0.62–0.70 mm, PL/PW: 1.05–1.07) with many echinopappolepida at base. Elytra quite sub-parallel to sides, dorsally vaulted (EL: 1.70–2.05 mm, EW: 0.83–1.00 mm, EL/EW: 2.05–2.05).

Type series. Holotype female with following labels: (genitalia in DHMF) [transparent label] / ♀ [w, p] / Calta- bellotta (Sicilia), lecceta, 520m, 25. 3. 2017, leg. Holotype description. Female. See Figs 4, 4a, 4b, 4c, 4d, 4e View FIGURES 4–4 . Body shape slender and subcylindrical ( TL: 3.40 mm and BL: 2.80 mm). Red-brownish cuticle.

Rostrum elongate (RL: 0.50 mm, RW: 0.38 mm, RL/RW: 1.32), conical to sides with expanded pterygium. Epistome absent. Mesorostrum carinae divergent to sides. Submentum covered by whitish-yellowish pappolepida, also visible around mesorostrum. Interocular pit visible. Forehead convex (FW/ MW: ratio 2.40). Vestigial eyes flat and just visible.

Scape clubbed, slightly more robust than funicle, curved at proximal third and progressively thickening towards apex. Funicle long and thin; all antennal segments with short and thin setae. Club three-segmented, elongate-oval, in length twice the width, densely covered by thin setae.

Pronotum slightly elongate (PL: 0.75 mm, PW: 0.70 mm, PL/PW: 1.07), wider in the middle and with many echinopappolepida at base. Scutellum visible.

Elytra elongate, sub-parallel to sides, dorsally vaulted (EL: 2.05 mm, EW: 1.00 mm, EL/EW: 2.05), wider in the middle with just convex suture. Humeri rounded. Striae with 13–14 evident punctures, catenulate, quite deep. Interstriae convex with short and recumbent setae. Elytral declivity <60 degrees.

Legs slim and elongate with femora little clubbed. Protibia with four–five acute spines on inner edge and an evident mucro on inner apical angle. Protibia slightly sinuous on inner edge and straight in side view. Metatibia and mesotibia straight in side view. All tibia with noticeable apical comb.

Distribution. See Figs. 221, 221a. Sicilian endemic. Known from Caltabellotta locality in Sicani Mountains, at 500–700 meters of elevation.

Etymology. This species is named after our friend and colleague Benelli (Alessio) specialist in epigean-endogean-hypogean ( Giachino & Vailati, 2010) beetles, in appreciation and gratitude for his cooperation in our study on Peritelini .

Ecology and Phenology. S. benellii specimens were collected by Berlese extractors from soil obtained sifting (under big stones) the earth on clay soil, of a Quercus ilex forest in March, at elevations from 500– 600 m.

Main soil type. Vertic Cambisol ( European Soil Data Centre; Panagos et al. 2012) .

Reproduction. Probably amphigonic. Species known from two females.
