Eulechriops elongatus Champion, 1906:118 View in CoL .
( Fig. 1 View Figs )
Diagnosis. Black, except legs, rostrum, elytra, and apical 1/4 of pronotum reddish brown; More or less uniformly and densely covered with white setae beneath and on legs, more densely so on metasterna; above, setae white in small patches along midline of pronotum at apex and anterior to scutellum and at anterior corners and in larger patches at posterior corners; setae in distinct pattern on elytra: at basal and apical
95
1/3 of intervals 1 and 2 along suture, at basal 1/6 of intervals 3–6, along marginal and submarginal intervals behind pronotum, and in oblique oval fascia on intervals 4–8 behind middle; rostrum glabrous beyond antennal insertions; 2.05–3.0 mm long (mean 5 2.35 mm, N 5 10).
Pronotum broadest at base or at basal 1/3 with lateral margins very shallowly arcuate, inconspicuously carinate along midline, about 1/3 wider than long. Elytra 1.0 mm wide, slightly broader than pronotum, elongate, about 1/2 longer than wide. Anterior margin of metasternum emarginate. Abdomen with shallow narrow groove on first ventral sternite in male, shallowly convex in female. Aedeagus and spiculum gastrale illustrated in Figure 1 View Figs .

Given the range of variation in E. minutus (see below), it would be tempting to synonymize these names based on setal pattern alone. Champion (1906) noted that Eulechriops elongatus differed from E. minutus in having ‘‘the rostral canal extending to the anterior portion of the metasternum, the eyes less approximate in front, the prothorax more rounded at the sides, &c.’’ The male genitalia and associated structures are also quite different ( Figs. 1–2 View Figs ). Specimens very similar to and possibly conspecific with E. elongatus have been seen from the Mexican state of Michoacan and the Federal District; see discussion below.
