Bactrocera trilineola (Drew, 1971) View in CoL

Herewith we record this species for the first time from New Caledonia. Seven specimens (6 males and 1 female) are in the reference collection of the Laboratory of Applied Entomology (IAC-SRFP). Six specimens were collected from Cue-lure traps in Maré Island (1993) and one specimen trapped in Lifou Island (2000) both islands from the Archipelago of Loyalty Islands. Those specimens were firstly identified as B. frauenfeldi (Schiner, 1868) by J. M. Lemontey (in 1993, unpublished), and later as B. parafrauenfeldi Drew, 1989 by David Paulaud (in 1999, unpublished). Specimens were then sent to Dr David Hancock who identified them as B. trilineola Drew. This identification was confirmed by a biomolecular study from Dr Karen Armstrong (Armstrong pers. comm. 2006). This is the first record of this species outside Vanuatu (Efate, Malekula, Espiritu Santo Islands) from where it was only known (Drew 1989; Norrbom et al. 1999).
