Replaced synonym: Salvia aegyptiaca L. (1767)  , nom. illeg., non L. (1753).

Lectotype (Hedge in Notes Roy. Bot. Gard. Edinburgh 33: 89. 1974): Herb. Linn. No. 42.44 ( LINN)  .

Current name: Salvia spinosa L.  ( Lamiaceae  ).

Note: Salvia aegyptiaca L. (1767)  is a later homonym of S. aegyptiaca L. (1753)  , and therefore illegitimate, the latter name also appearing in Syst. Nat., ed. 12, 2: 64 (1767). Salvia spinosa  was published as a nomen novum for S. aegyptiaca  (1767, non 1753).
